CP Ships Adopts a Single Brand.
CP Ships Limited today announced that it plans to re-brand its container shipping services under the CP Ships name and retire its seven operating brands by the end of the year. Since 1993, CP Ships has acquired nine container shipping companies, seven of whose brands are currently active: ANZDL, Canada Maritime, Cast, Contship Containerlines, Italia Line, Lykes Lines and TMM Lines. The company means that a single CP Ships brand presents many opportunities, It will help them to streamline there corporate structure, improve further there accounting and related business processes and information systems, save costs, strengthen there company culture and more closely align how they communicate with all of our customers. A project team has been established to steer the many aspects of the re-branding process which will take place over the remainder of the year. As part of this, CP Ships is developing a new website to meet the needs of customers, investors and others, all from a single platform. Until the re-branding is complete, the existing corporate website and the seven brand websites will function as normal.
Hanjin Heavy Industries wins boxship quintet.
From South Korea it is reported that the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd.in Pusan, South Korea has won an order for five 4000 TEU container ships from an unidentified European shipowner at a total cost of $365 million. All units will be delivered by the first quarter of 2009. This order comes just a few weeks after the Marseille based CMA CGM group ordert two ca. 4400 TEU Containerships at the same yard for delivery end of 2008. The Hanjin Yard has now 17 big containerships for delivery during 2008 and 2009.
LT CORTESIA IMO Nr. 9293753.
End of last Week German finance company Conti based near Munich and the shipping company NSB Niederelbe will take delivery of the first of eight 8073 TEU from the Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, Koje yard in South Korea. All eight ships will be chartered to companies in the Evergreen group, an the first will go to Genoa based Lloyd Triestino, where she will get the name LT CORTESIA. The Evergreen Group has announced that they want to use the new and bigger ships to replace smaller 5300 ships on there Asia to Europe pendel service. The LT CORTESIA has started its frist trip April 27 in Kauhsiung and then go in direction Europe. Where she will arrive end of May. The LT CORTESIA will be followed by the EVER CHAMPION end of next month, and by two more ships in the second part of 2005.
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 334,0 meters, Beam 42,8 meters, drought 14,5 meters, tonnage 98800 ton. She can carry ca. 8073 TEU (6110 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 700 reefer containers. The ships have a Sulzer designed 12RTA96C engine with 68680 KW and a service speed of 25,8 knots.
Columbia Shipmanagement orders 7 new ships.
After the an other German Shipping as the first company has ordered bigger containerships at the New Century Shipyard in Jingjiang, China, Hamburg and Cypress based Columbia Shipmanagment has now also finalised negociations with the yard and agreed to order four of the yards new 41800 tdw and 4250 TEU designed ships. It will be the first bigger containerships that the New Century Shipyard will build, as they until now mainly have beein invoved in the building of tankers and bulkcarriers. The four ships are all sceduled for delivery during 2008, and will then be among the biggest ships in the Columbia Shipmanagment fleet. Columbia Shipmanagment has also agreed with the Peene Werft in Volgast Germany to order tree ca. 1800 TEU containerships. Columbia Shipmanagment has already got more ships delivered from the yard, and has currently 7 ships on order at the yard.
Hapag-Lloyd enhances port coverage with European Express Service (EEX).
Starting April 23, Hapag-Lloyd Container Line is operating the existing EEX service independently until further notice on a fixed-day, fortnightly basis and will return to a weekly service in the course of the second half of 2005, linking the North European Continent and the Mediterranean. Simultaneously, the service scope has been expanded by incorporating Gioia Tauro instead of Taranto into the southbound schedule and by linking Salerno and Lisbon to the North Continent. The two container-vessels employed are performing the following enhanced rotation: Hamburg - Thamesport - Antwerp - Lisbon - Gioia Tauro - Istanbul - Thessaloniki - Izmir - Salerno - Lisbon - Hamburg.
JACKY RICKMERS / RHITI BHUM IMO Nr. 9270804, put into service.
Singapore based Regional Container Line (RCL) has reported the addition of a newbuild ship to its fleet, as they have taken delivery of the 1850 TEU JACKY RICKMERS which be RCL has got the name RHITI BHUM. The ship is taken o long term charter from Hamburg based Rickmers Reederei, and is the second containership of this type that RCL has chartered, after the end of 2004 got the SATHU BHUM delivered. The ship type is designed in Germany and build by the Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, in China, and the JACKY RICKMERS is the fifth ship of the type build at the yard in the last 2 years. The RHITI BHUM will join here sister vessel SATHU BHUM in RCL's Singapore to China service. RCL will with the UPA BHUM scheduled for delivery in June 2005 get one more ship of this type delivered from the Jiangsu Yangzijiang yard, but that will be a ship owned by RCL themselves. The yard has orders for additional 6 ships of this type for delivery in 2006 and 2007, and all ships will go to the Rickmers Reederei, with charter of the two for 2006 scheduled ships to Marseille based CMA CGM group.

After they in week 14 took delivery of the BELLAVIA has German shipping company Hermann Daulsberg now also got the second ship of this 5100 TEU type delivered from the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, yard in Ulsan South Korea. The ship are delivered a little ahead of the original schedule, and will similar to here sister vessel be chartered to the Japanise NYK group, who has then bordchartered here to the Chinese China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) for at least 1 year. CSCL will employ the ship on the new AMX 1 service linking Asia with the Mediterranean with western turning point in Barcelona.

ARIAKE / SARAH SCHULTE IMO Nr. 9294159 delivered.
Hamburg based Thomas Schulte Reederei has taken delivery of the first ship from the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co, in Pusan South Korea, after mainly expanding by ships from German yards, the new ships of Hyundai Mipos standard 2824 TEU type and will at the moment be the bigges ship in the companies fleet. The ship with the internal Schulte name SARAH SCHULTE will be chartered by the P&O Nedlloyd group, and has got the charter name ARIAKE. Thomas Schulte will get one more ship of this type delivered next month, and one in the first quarter of 2006, and these ships will also be chartered by the P&O Nedlloyd group.
XIN YANG SHAN IMO Nr. 9310020 delivered.
China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) has taken delivery of another 4250 TEU ship, this time from the local Hudong Shipbuilding Group in China, and the ship has got the name XIN YANG SHAN. The ship is the first ship of the improved design building on a similar size design with a slightly small container intake delivered 4 times to CSCL during 2003 and 2004. The XIN YANG SHAN is delivered about 3 month ahead of schdule compared to the originally scheduled delivery time. The Hudong Shipbuilding Group will deliver four more ships of the design to CSCL this year, followed by another two ships in 2006, before they start on a 4 ship family of 8500 TEU ships for CSCL. The next ship in the family dur for delivery next month will be the XIN QUAN ZHOU. Additionally Hong Kong based OOCL has ordered two shps of the same design for delivery in the beginning of 2007 and has taken 2 options.
NORTHERN JULIE / SAVANNAH EXPRESS IMO Nr. 9294989 delivered.
Hamburg based Norddeutsche Reederei has taken deliverey of the first of five 8400 TEU ships from the Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd in South Korea, and the ship which will be chartred by Hamburg based Grand Alliance member Hapag Lloyd AG has got the name SAVANNAH EXPRESS. The new SAVANNAH EXPRESS will be phased into the Grand Alliances Europe - Asia loop D service where she will replace a slightly smaller ship of the HAMBURG EXPRESS class. The SAVANNAH EXPRESS will leave its first loading port Shanghai April 30 and arrive in Europe end of May, and are planed to arrive in its homeport Hamburg May 30. The SAVANNAH EXPRESS will in July 2005 be followed by the NORTHERN JADE as second ship in the family also this ship will be chartered by Hapag Lloyd AG, and will get the name HOUSTON EXPRESS. The remaing 3 ships will be delivered during 2006, and these ships will be chartered by Hapag Lloyds partner in the Grand Alliance P&O NEDLLOYD.
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 332,0 meters, Beam 43,2 meters, drought 14,5 meters, tonnage 107500 ton. She can carry ca. 8400 TEU (6880 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 700 reefer containers. The ships have a MAN B&W designed 12K98MEC engine with 68510 KW and a service speed of 25,4 knots.
Norasia release informations about new AME Asia - Europe service.
As already announced some month ago Hong Kong based Noraisa part of the CSAV group will start its oven AME service May 18, the service which links China with Northern Europa will be served by 9 ships in the size between 4000 and 5500 TEU, the planed ships are CHILLIAN, NORASIA ATRIA; LIMARI V, NORASIA VALPARADISO, NORASIA BELLATRIX, CHOAPA, LOA and MARE OHOENICUM. To increase the speed in the service Norasia has decided to drop calls at ports in the Mediterranean, and the port rotation will be Xingang - Quindoa - Shanghai - Ningbo - Xiamen - Hong Kong - Yantian - Port Kelang - Le Havre - Hamburg - Rotterdam - Zeebrugge - Felixstowe - Jeddah - Jebel Ali - Yantian. The new service will have one of the fastest transit times between China and Northern Europe with only 20 days from Yantian to Le Havre

Hamburg based NSC Schiffahrtsgeselschaf has taken delivery of another of the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. yards 5026 TEU Panamax designed ships, the ship is the first of this type NSC, after 2 other German shipping companies has got 7 ships of this type delivered. The ship which has got the name APL NEW YORK in a charter to Oakland based American President Line, was originally ordered by Hamburg based E.R. Schiffahrt, but resently sold to NSC together with a sister ship due for delivery May 2005. The APL NEW YORK will enter APLs NYX service, whcih links China and Taiwan with the east coast of North America trough the Panama Canal. The Sister ship coming into service in may will also be chartered to APL and will get the name APL VIRGINIA, and also this ship is planed for the NYX service. The Hyundai Samho yard plan to Deliver 2 more ships of the design type this year before they staert on a long row of Post Panamax ships for various shipping companies

After taking delivery of 2 bigger post panamax ships from China Shipbuilding Corp. Kaohsiung Shipyard, Taiwan Hamburg based Peter Döhle Schiffahrt has now got the first of a new familiy of ca. 4043 TEU containerships from the same yard delivere. The LOA will be chartered by Döhles long term Business partner the CSAV group Chile, who will deploy the ship on a new route AME service between Asia and Europe, run and managed by the Hong Kong based Norasia Line. The LOA will be followed by 3 sister Wessels for Peter Döhle Schiffahrt and 2 for Spanish Yabarra group. All 6 ships will after there delivery during 2005 and 2006 be chartered to CSAV / Norasia .
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 268,8 meters, Beam 32,2 meters, drought 12,5 meters, tonnage 51870 ton. She can carry ca. 4043 TEU (2881 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 700 reefer containers, She is equipped with a Sulzer designed 7RTA96C engine with a output of 40044 KW and has a service speed of 25,0 knots.

Resently German Shipping company Peter Döhle Schiffahrt based in Hamburg has taken delivery of the second 5551 TEU ship from China Shipbuilding Corp. Kaohsiung Shipyard, Taiwan, and the ship will similar to here previous delivered sister be chartered to Hong Kong based Norasia Line, part of the Compania Sud Americana de Vapores (CSAV) group. CHOAPA will be integrated into Norasia and CMA CGM joined NCX Service between Asia and Europa, and will arrive in Europe the first time end of May. The joined NCX service has Hamburg as only German port, and here the CHOAPA is planed to arrive the first time May 26.

As first ship in a six ship family Hamburg based shipping company C. P. Offen will has take delivery of the SANTA PAOLA from the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard in Ulsan, South Korea. The ship will be chartered to anglo-dutch shipping company P&N Nedlloyd with whom C. P. Offen since years has close business connections, and the ship has got the name P&O NEDLLOYD DALIAN. Also the 5 sisterwessels which will be delivered with 5 ship during 2005 will be chartered to P&N Nedlloyd. The ships are of the yards standard 5000 TEU panamax type, of which already 4 ships was delivered last year. The P&O NEDLLOYD DALIAN will first be placed in the Grand Alliance PAX service from Asia - US West Coast - US East Coast to Europe and back.
More 4250 TEU ships from Dalian New Shipyard.
It is reported that China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL), China's second-largest shipowner has now agreed with the Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co to order five more ships of the yards 4250 TEU design containerships, CSCL already have 8 ships of the type on order, and also other shipping companies seams to like the design. Singapore based Pacific International Line (PIL) has now also increased the amount of ships of this design on order to 8 ships. Additionally Canadian Seaspan container lien will take 4 ships of this type all to be chartered to CSCL, and Haifa based Zim Integrates services has also signed in for 7 ships of this design. Additional to the 17 ships of this size that CSCL will bring into service, they have also 8 ships of the same size in order by the Hudong Shipbuilding Group. CSCL are also negotiation with the Dalian yard about a order for a quintet of ca. 9000 TEU ships , and CSCL are already ordered ten ca 8600 TEU ships from the Hudong yard. With the aggressive expansion plans CSCL plan before 2010 to be among the 3 biggers shipping line in the container business. CSCL has now 45 ships with an intake of ca 270.000 TEU on order including ships ordered by other companies with long term charter to CSCL and all for delivery before 2009, and when these ships are delivered, CSCL will have more than doubled there transport capacity, and control about 525.000 TEU capacity.
More orders for Dalian Shipyard.
Also the other shipyard in Chinese Dalian has been active with there negotiations, and has now fixed additionally 4 for there 4250 TEU design with Hamburg based Bertram Rickmers & Cie, the new ordered ships are planed for delivery during 2009. With the new orders Rickmers & Cie has now 12 ships of this design on order at the yard, the first 6 ships will be chartered by CMA CGM, for the remaining 6 ships no charterer has been published.
JULIA SCHULTE / P&O NEDLLOYD SAVANNAH delivered.
End of last week German owner Thomas Schulte has received the 2,478 TEU JULIA SCHULTE, this is the second of three 2,478 TEU ships ordered at Aker Ostsee by this owner, JULIA SCHULTE will similar to here sister be chartered to Rotterdam based P&O Nedlloyd , and the JULIA SCHULTE has left the yard under the charter name P&O NEDLLOYD SAVANNAH. P&O NEDLLOYD SAVANNAH will join P&O Nedlloyds 'Gulf America Med Express' service GAMEX , on which she is to replace the 2,474 teu P&O NEDLLOYD PANTANAL, who is to join her new charterer by Hapag-Lloyd, at the end of her current rotation.
Maersk Sealand to focus on new Port Said hub.
Following the opening of the Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT) in Port Said, Maersk Sealand is now carrying out the transfer of several services from Gioia Tauro, Italy to Port Said, Egypt. This change is the result of an agreement concluded between SCCT and Maersk Sealand, involving that a number of Mediterranean linked services and feeders will be operated in Port Said in the future. The SCCT is managed by the SCCT S.A.E. - 60% APM Terminals / 40% Egyptian interests (ECT -Europe Container Terminals and APM Terminals is a subsidiary of A.P. Möller-Maersk). During the coming months Maersk Sealand will therefore transfer several Eastern Mediterranean services from the terminal in Gioia Tauro to Port Said. The SCCT is located at Port Said East Port, at the Northern entrance to the Suez Canal. It has been inaugurated in October 2004. The terminal will be equipped with seven gantry cranes by mid-2005, with up to 12 cranes planned for the first phase. They are super post panamax cranes able to serve 22 rows ships (i.e. ships of 15,000 TEU), similar to those now in service at key APM terminals worldwide. The berthing length (first phase) will reach 1,200 m, with depth alongside of 16.5 m increasable to 17.5 m

Last week Hamburg based Peter Döhle Schiffahrt to delivery of an other Type 178 ship from the Stocznia Szczecinska S.A., yard in Poland, the ships with a container intake of 3104 (2430 by 14 ton) has the project name Coletta , but she left the year with the charter name NORASIA BALKAN. After a trip between from Europe to Asia, NORASIA BALKAN will enter Norasias Asia to Black Sea service.

German Shipping company Dauelsberg Hermann has now taken delivery of if first 5000 TEU containership and it has got the name BELLAVIA, the ship is build at the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, yard in Ulsan South Korea, and is of the yards standard design, already delivered to different other German shipping companies. The BELLAVIA was originally planed for a charter to Japanese NYK Logistic, who have then sublet the new ship to Chinese China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) for at least 1 year. CSCL will employ the ship on the new AMX 1 service which links Asia with the Mediterranean with turning point in Barcelona. BELLAVIA will later this month be followed by here Sisterwessel OCTAVIA who will also be placed in the same service.

They can carry ca 5117 TEU ( 3370 by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 500 reefer containers. Vancouver based Seaspan Container Line has after the delivery of the CSCL VANCOUVER last Month now also got the second ship in the five ship family, the CSCL SYDNEY delivered from the Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, Koje yard and handed the ship over to its Charterer and long term partner China Shipping Container Line (CSCL). The CSCL SYDNEY is of the yards standard 4250 TEU design already delivered in big amounts to both Seaspan and other shipping companies, and she will be followed by 3 more ships for CSCL charter and 8 ships to be chartered to the CP Ship group. The CSCL SYDNEY will be employed in CSCL's February 2004 started China - North American west coast service with the name AAC, she will here replace a ship of the 2700 TEU class, and the service are now run with 4 x 42500 TEU and one 2700 TEU ships.

Hamburg based Bertram Rickmers & Cie has taken delivery of its fifth 5050 TEU containership from the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. yard in Pusan South Korea, the ship will similar to here 4 sisters be chartered to Copenhagen based Maersk Sealand group, where she has got the Name MAERSK DAVAO. MAERSK DAVAO is assigned to Maersk-Sealands Asia-Europe AE-6 service which runs between China - south east Asia - Arabia and the Mediterranean with turning point in Barcelona. MAERSK DAVOA will be followed by one more ship from AGNES RICKMERS which are planed for delivery in June 2005.

MSC RACHELE IMO Nr. 9290282 Delivered.
With this weeks delivery of the MSC RACHELE from Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, South Korea to Conti Reederei Germany and Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) the qintet of 8204 TEU container ships completet to be chartered by MSC. The ship was originally planed to be deployd on MSC and CMA CGM's combined Pearl River Express service connecting South China and the US west coast service together with here four sister wessels. But MSC RACHEL will now be swiched to MSC's Silk Express Service connecting Asia with North Europe, and she is expected to arrive in Europe beginning of May, she will here replace a ship of about 5000 TEU.
COSCO DALIAN IMO Nr. 9300312.
After COSCO Container Lines last month with the COSCO XIAMEN got the first of tree ca. 5800 TEU containerships from the Koyo Dockyard Co. Ltd., in Japan, they have now also got the second ship delivered, and it has got the name COSCO DALIAN after the North chinese port city of Dalian. The ship will together with here sistership be employed in Coscos CEU2 service linking China with North Europa, COSCO DALIAN sailed from here first loading port Shanghai April 03, and will after visits in 5 ports in China and in Singapore arrive in Europe first week of May. The ships are of similar design as ships build for the Yangming group and the Shoei Kisen group which charter to APL.
The ships has the following data: Length 279,9 meters, Beam 40,0 meters, drought 14,0 meters, tonnage 69000 ton. They can carry ca 5800 TEU and has plugs for up to 500 reefer containers. She will be equipped with a B&W designed 10K98MC engine with a output of ca. 57204 KW, and has a service speed of 25,0 knots.
Yang Ming orders five 4200 TEU ships at CSBC.
The fast expanding Yang Ming shipping group based on Taiwan, has announced that they intent to order five ca 4200 TEU containerships at the local China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSBC), it is not yet clear if the ships will be build on the Keelung or Kaohsiung shipyard belonging to CSBC. The five ships are planed for delivery with 3 ships in the second half of 2008 and 2 ships in first half of 2009. The new ships are part of a aggressive expansion plan which include 30 new ships until mid of 2009, the ships are four 1500 TEU feeder ships for delivery during 2005 (2 ships are delivered), twelve 1800 TEU feeder ships for delivery until end of 2008 and nine 8200 TEU ships for delivery until middle of 2009. The feeder ships are planed for inter Asian routs the bigger ships are for the Asia to North America and Asia to Europe trades.
Conti group orders a sextet of 1800 TEU feeder ships by Hyundai Mipo.
After the German shpping company Claus-Peter Offen resently placed a big order for a new 1800 TEU type of big feeder ships at the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co, Ulsan South Korea, a second German shipping and finance group the Conti Group Putzbrun has now also placed a order for six ships of the same type. All the ships are planed for delivery during 2008, and they will be build on the shipyards new slipway system, where the complete hull are completed on land. The yard has now 18 ships of the type on order, and there are placed Options for additional 8 ships of the type. The Hyundai Mipo Dockyards which started as a repair yard has now also announced that it after finalisation of the last repair orders will stop completely with the repair business, and concentrate on newbuildings of different types up to ca. 50000 Ton. The existing repair facilities will be converted into newbuilding facilities to boost the yards capacity.

P&O Nedlloyd orders a quartet of mega containerships in South Korea.
After they for a longer time has been close related to the Ishikawahima heavy industries Co. Ltd in Japan, Grand Alliance member P&O Nedlloyd based in Rotterdam has now ordered a quartet of mega containerships by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, group in South Korea. The ships which are planed for delivery from the end of 2008 and then into 2009 will be 8600 TEU ships and after delivery the biggest ships in the P&O Nedlloyd fleet. Hapag Lloyd, and other member of the Grand Alliance has for some month ago also ordered 3 similar size ships by the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, group and it can be expected that the P&O Nedlloyd ships will be of the same design as the ships planed for Hapag Lloyd. It is reported that P&O Nedlloyd will pay 650 million US $ for the five ships, which makes it one of the biggest orders in the campanirs history.After deliver of the quartet P&O Nedlloyd will have 16 ships of this size in service, and the Grand Alliance group will together have 48 (Hapag Lloyd = 10, NYK = 8, OOCL = 12, MISC = 2) ships in this class in service, including ships that they will long term charter from mainly German shipping companies.
COLOMBO EXPRESS IMO Nr. 9295244
Hamburg based Hapag Lloyd GmbH has joined the club of companies with containerships bigger than 8000 TEU, and has now taken delivery of the first of tree 8145 TEU from the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, yard in South Korea, and the ship has got the name COLOMBO EXPRESS. The COLOMBO EXPRESS will this year be followed by the KYOTO EXPRESS and the last ship the TSINGTAO EXPRESS will go into service in the beginning of 2006. The COLOMBO EXPRESS has now left its Shanghai as first port in the Grand Alliance Asia to Europe loop D service, and she is expected to reach Europe end of this month. The COLOMBO EXPRESS will in this service replace and other slightly smaller ship of the HAMBURG EXPRESS type.

With the delivery of the OOCL TIANJIN this week, Hong Kong based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), has take delivery the eight 8063 TEU OOCL SHENZEN class ship, the ship was christened by mayor of Tianjin Municipality, Mr. Dai Xianglong in the north Chinese harbour city, after whom the ship also has got here name, The new ship will together with 4 of here earlier delivered sisters (OOCL ATLANTA, OOCL HAMBURG, OOCL NINGBO, OOCL ROTTERDAM) run in the Grand Alliance's SSX service connecting Asia with the North American west coast. Here first round trip are planed to start in Port Kelang March 29 and she planed to arrive in Long Bach the first time April 15. The OOCL TIANJIN is the last ship of this type for delivery in 2005, but additional 2 ships will come during 2006, it is not known yet in which of the many Grand Alliance services these ships will be placed.
HATSU SHINE IMO Nr. 9300386 launched.
London based Hatsu Marine Ltd a member of the Evergreen group, and the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd Kobe yard has launched the first of a new 10 ship family 0f 7024 TEU containerships. The ship will be the first in the new S-class of ships, and will be delivered to Hatsu Marine Ltd in September, and every 3 month a new ship will follow. Also the following four ships which will be delivered until September 2006 will go to Hatsu Marine Ltd, the remaining five ships will be managed by Evergreen Marine after delivered until December of 2007. The S-clsss ships is an improved version of the 2001-2002 build E-class also sailing for Hatsu Marine on there Asia to North Americas west coast service, and the ships will have about the same dimension but with a increased intake of containers of about 900 TEU, and specially with a big increase from 570 to 839 reefer TEU. The new ship type incorporate many new environmental features like the position of the fuel tanks in the middle of the hull, a high capacity oily water separator enables the oil content of waste water to be reduced to just 15 ppm. And the main engines and generators incorporate low NOx technology while the ships are also able to switch to low sulphur fuels when sailing in restricted areas. 'Cold-ironing', the ability to shut down all shipboard generators while in port, switching to shore-based electricity supplies, is also a feature of the S-class vessels which are totally new, and only seen on a few ships sailing today, and off cause the ships are painted with the latest tin-free anti-fouling coating systems. After delivery the HATSU SHINE will sail to Europe where she will be put into service, the new S class will allow the group's carriers to upgrade existing services and phase out older vessels.

After taking delivery of the P&O NEDLLOYD MONDRIAAN in december 2004 as the first ships in a new family of 8456 TEU ships, Blue Star Line Germany has now also got the second ship in the family delivered, and it has got the name P&O NEDLLOYD MANET. The ship is like the rest of the family on charter to Rotterdam Based P&O Nedlloyd, and will be deployed in the Grand Alliance's Asia to Europe Loop D where the Sister wessel also are deployed.

German shipping company Oltmann Verwaltung has take delivery of there second 5026 TEU containership and it will be named APL VIETNAM, similar to its sistership the APL BEIJING she will be chatered to Singapore/US based American president Line (APL). The APL VIETNAM is build by the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Yard in South Korea und the yard-Nr. S217, and is a standard type 5000 TEU containership, of which already 6 ships are delivered to Hamburg based E.R. Schiffahrt and Oltmann Verwaltung, and additional 2 ships of this type will be delivered during 2005. With this last delivery the Oltmann fleet has reached 12 modern containerships between 624 and 5026 TEU, and additional one 4100 TEU ship will be delivered to the shipping company in the first half of 2006. The APL VIETNAM will be imployed on APL's NYX service between Asien - US east coast - South America west coast.
COSCO announce changes to its Asia to Europe Services.
The Cosco Grouphas announced plans to make changes to four of its services between Asia and Europe starting from mid-June. The port rotations of the four services will be: Loop 1: Shanghai, Dalian, Qingdao, Singapore, Port Said, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Hamburg, Antwerp, Singapore, Hong Kong and Shanghai; Loop 2: Shanghai, Ningbo, Yantian, Port Klang, Colombo, Hamburg, Rotterdam, Felixstowe, Le Havre, Port Said, Colombo, Port Klang, Hong Kong and Shanghai; Loop 3: Xingang, Kwangyang, Busan, Chiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Rotterdam, Hamburg, Felixstowe, Singapore, Kaohsiung and Xingang; and Loop 4: Xiamen, Hong Kong, Nansha, Yantian, Jeddah, Antwerp, Hamburg, Felixstowe and Xiamen. As a result of the upcoming changes there will be two sailings each week from Shanghai, Yantian, Hong Kong, Singapore; and a weekly sailing from other main ports in Asia. From Europe, there will be four sailings from Hamburg and Felixstowe, three from Rotterdam, two from Antwerp and one from Le Havre.In addition, the company said the services will be expanded to Southeast Asia via Singapore and Port Klang, to India subcontinent via Colombo, to Red Sea area via Jeddah and to the Mediterranean area via Port Said.
COSCO and Evergreen to Upgrade joint Asia - Africa Service .
Recognising the growing market potential in China as well as better meeting customers' needs and improving operating efficiency, Evergreen Marine Corporation (EMC) and COSCO Container Lines, Ltd(COSCO)are pleased to announce that by inviting Lloyd Triestino (LT) as a new partner, the two lines will upgrade the Far East to South Africa and East Coast of South America service (ESA), a joint service currently operated by Evergreen and COSCO. By deploying one additional vessel, these three lines are able to extend their current port coverage to Shanghai, Ningbo and Yantian. Such service upgrading allows vessels to make direct calls at major Chinese ports, hence saving time originally required for transshipment and further to provide all shippers with a faster and more efficient transportation service. Effective from late April this year, the upgraded ESA service will deploy eleven vessels. Six of these will be provided by EMC, while COSCO and LT will contribute three and two respectively. The port rotation of this 77-day round trip is as follows: Shanghai, Ningbo, Kaohsiung, Hong Kong, Yantian, Singapore, Durban, Cape Town, Buenos Aires, Montevideo, Santos, Singapore, Hong Kong, Kaohsiung, Shanghai.

Posco, Korea's largest steel maker, raised the price of steel plates used to build ships 9.7% last week after producers agreed to pay 71.5% more for iron ore this year. The situation in Japan, China and other major Shipbuilding nations are the same as in South Korea, with even a lack of some types of steel in some countries. As a reaction on the raising prices also the prices for new ships raise, and most Korean Shipyarsds has already raised the price with up to 25 this year, and also the Hyundai group has announced that the will increase there prices for new ships. As there seeams to be no end on the raising steel prices Korean shipbuilders, including the world's largest yard Hyundai Heavy Industries, may increase ship prices to an all-time high to compensate for rising steel costs. A 8000 TEU containerships as on order for many shipping lines will then cost a near-record $127 million.

Despite on full orderbooks at the asian yards and high prices more of the major shipping lines like P&O Nedlloyd, COSCO, China Shipping Container Line,Evergreen Marine and K-Line are reported to be in the marked for more ships in the 8000+ TEU class. P&O Nedlloyd looks for 4-8 more ships in the 8400 class similar to the ships the get delivered from Ishikawahima heavy industries Co. Ltd in Japan. COSCO are still negociation with Nantong Ocean Ship Engineering Co. Ltd., China about a quartet of ca 8500 TEU Ships for delivery end of 2007 and 2008. China Shipping Container Line are in talks with Dalian New Shipbuilding Heavy Industry Co. Ltd. China about a contract for a quartet of 8500 TEU ships, and K-Line seas to have agreed with the Ishikawahima heavy industries Co. Ltd yard in Japan to extend there orders at the yard to eight 8100 TEU ships, it is now investigated how to finance the ships. Finally Evergreen Marine are still negociating with different South Korean yards and the local China Shipbuilding Corp. Kaohsiung Shipyard, Taiwan about up to ten 9000 TEU ships. All thementioned shipping companies are in the ned fopr new and bigger ships from ca. 2008 after there major compeditors like CMA CGM, MSC and Maersk-Sealand has ordered a big amound of bigger ships.
CMA CGM orders 4400 Duo at Hanjin.
Marseille based CMA CGM group has agreed with the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Pusan, South Korea about a contract for 2 ca. 4400 TEU big containerships, the ships will be delivered during 2008. The CMA CGM group has currently 3 ship in the range between 4100 and 4300 TEU on charten which will all change to a different charten end og this yrar. The new ships will properly be of a light modified design of the CMA CGM EIFFEL which the CMA CGM group got delivered from the Hanjin yard in 2002.

Maersk Sealand adds more Post Panamax orders.
Copenhagen based Maersk Sealand group has agreed with the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Pusan, South Korea to add 2 more 6500 TEU containerships to there orders at the yard, the new ships are planed for delivery during 2006. Maersk Sealand has now 10 ships of the 6500 TEU design on order at the Hanjin yard, and this in addition to 8 ca 5100 TEU ships that has been taken on charter from 2 German finance and managment companies, makes Maersk Sealand to one of the yards biggest customers.
MONTE ROSA IMO Nr. 9283215 delivered to Hamburger Sued.
Hamburg based Hamburg Sued has end of this week taken delivery of the fourth of six 5550 TEU post panamax containership from the Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd, Koje, South Korea, and the ship has got the name MONTE ROSA. Different to the first 3 ships in the family which was chartered to CMA CGM for different Asia to Europe the MONTE ROSA will sail direct to Buenos Aires, where she April 30 2005 will enter Hamburg Sued andAlianša South America East Coast to Europe service. During the next Months the tree already delivered will also enter the same service followed by the 2 last ship after delivery in June and August. The 5550 TEU will be among the biggest ships in the Europe South America trade, and trough the bigger and faster ships Hamburg Sued are able to decrease the amount of ships in the service from 16 to 12 ships.
P&O NEDLLOYD LIVINSTONE IMO Nr. 9293179 delivered.
After they in week 7 took delivery of the first of 2 special designed ships planed for the Europe - South Africa trade, Hamburg based C.P. Offen group has now also taken delivery of the second ship which will charter to the long term partner Rotterdam based P&O Nedlloyd, and the ship has got the name P&O NEDLLOYD LIVINSTONE. After a short trip around to ports in China and Singapotr the P&O NEDLLOYD LIVINSTONE will sail to South Africa where she March 20 will be phased into P&O Nedlloyd, DAL, Safmarine and Maersk-Sealand joined service. P&O NEDLLOYD LIVINSTONE are then expected to reach North Europe mid April with planed arrival in Le Havre, Rotterdam; Tilbury and Bremerhaven between April 16 and April 20. With the Arrival of the P&O NEDLLOYD LIVINSTONE and the DAL KALAHARI also phased into the service this week, the fleet renewal on this service are completet, and 7 modern and fast ships with high Reefer intake are now servicing the route.
Big Engine news.
3 major engine project has been placed by 2 major engine producers in the last days The first project is at Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding (Group) which is building four 8,500 TEU container ships with up to four options for China Shipping Group, one of China's largest shipping lines. These ships are due for completion by 2008 and will be equipped with 12K98MC-C engines with an output of 68,520kW.
The second project is for 4 container vessels also for delivery in 2008. The 4,250 TEU vessels are to be built by New Century Shipbuilding in Jing Jiang City, China, for Bremen-based German owner Hanseatic Lloyd Schiffahrt GmbH. These ships will be equipped with the 8K98MC-C engine with an output of 45,680kW.
All the engines for the two projects are to be built by Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding in Japan which has worked closely with MAN B&W Diesel since 1926 when the first licensee contract was drawn up.
The third Project is for four 8,600 TEU container ships ordered by Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) from Hyundai Heavy Industries (two ships) and Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries (two ships) are to be powered by 14-cylinder Sulzer RT-flex96C common-rail engines. Each engine will have a maximum continuous power of 80,080 kW. Hyundai Heavy Industries will build these engines under licence from Wärtsilä Corporation and the ships are due for delivery in the first quarter of 2008. They will have a service speed of 27 knots.
The Sulzer 14RT-flex96C is the most powerful marine engine on order today, and also the first low-speed marine engine to be built with more than 12-cylinders.
F. Laeisz orders two 2700 TEU Ships by Aker Ostsee.
Yesterday it was announced that Hamburg based Reederei F. Laeisz GmbH in Rostock has agreed with the Aker Ostsee yard in Wismar to purchase two of the yards CS 2700 type ships, the ships shall be delivered in the first and third quarter of 2007. Discussions between the 2 parties are ongoing regarding a potential order for another two vessels of the same type. The finance of the each ca. EUR 40 million expensive ships will be handled by Hamburgische Seehandlung, a member of the F. Laeisz group. There are no information published about where the new ships shall be deployed.

OOCL to Charter four 5700 TEU ships from Shoei Kisen.
The four 5700 TEU ordered by Japanese finance and management group Shoei Kisen at the close related Koyo Dockyard Co. Ltd., Japan for delivery during 2005 will be chartered to Hong Kong based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), no information are available about where OOCL plan to deploy the four new ships after delivery. The ships will be similar to more ships of the same size delivered to various customers like APL, K-Line and Yang Ming Line over the last 2 years. Koyo Dockyard Co. Ltd. has now also started the design of its first + 8000 TEU ship, also this ship will be managed by Shoei Kisen group. There are no information's about a charterer for this ship, but it is very likely that it will be K-Line or Mitsui OSK Line (MOL), which whom Shoei Kisen has long business relations.
More Japanese orders for Hyundai Mipo.
The Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co, South Korea are fast filling up the order book for 2008 and 2009, and has now fixed orders for additional four 2824 TEU containerships for the Tokyo based Cido Shipping. The first two ships are planed for delivery in the second half of 2008, the last two in 2009. Cido Shipping has now 6 ships of this very popular type on order, and all in all 59 ships of this type are on order or has been delivered. To speed up de production the Hyundai Mipo yard has will taken a new slipway system in use, which make it possible for them to build the ships completely on land, without occupying there limited dock capacity. With this system they are able to nearly double there capacity as elements can come from different element factories in the region, they ships build by this system carries a 4 digits yard number instead of 3 digits used for the ships coming from the old yard.
E.R. Schiffahrt orders additional two 4300 TEU ships.
Hamburg based E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH has added another 2 ships to there orders by the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co (HDM), South Korea, it is two more of the yards relatively new 4300 TEU ship type where E.R. Schiffahrt with the E.R. MONACO will be first customer. The two new ordered ships are planed for delivery in 2008, E.R. Schiffahrt has now 5 ships of this type on order at the HDM yards. Eight more ships of the same type are already ordered by two other shipping companies, so it looks like this will also be a very popular ship type.
NSC Schiffahtsgesellschaft order six 1100 TUE ships in China.
NSC Schiffahtsgesellschaft has in the last months also been active in China and has placed and order for six 1118 TEU containerships by the relatively unknown Jingjiang Traffic yard, the ships will be of the standard design already build and on order by a long row of Chinese yards. The first ship with the project name LLOYD HELSINKI are planed for delivery in 2005, and she will later in 2005 be followed by LLOYD OSLO, and the LLOYD STOKHOLM. The ships with the project names LLOYD KOPENHAGEN, LLOYD TALLIN and LLOYD RIGA will then follow during 2006.

Under the yardnumbers 176 to 179 the Hamburg based NSC Schiffahtsgesellschaft has orderd four 5100 TEU containerships at the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Pusan yard, South Korea, the ships will be of the yards standard 5100 TEU type already delivered to other German shipping companies in the last months. The ships ships which are planed for delivery during 2008 and which shall cost $320 million an blok will be chartered to the Maersk Sealand group who already has taken 8 Hanjin build ship from Rickmers & Cie and Hansa Shipping of the same type on charter.
Hanseatic Lloyd orders four 4700 TEU ships at chinese New Centery Shipyard.
Hamburg based Hanseatic Lloyd has now agreed with the chinese New Centery Shipyard in Jingjiang about the build of four ca 4700 TEU big Panamax containerships for delivery during 2007. The ships will be the first bigger containerships build at the yard who has mainly build bulk carriers in the past years. The new ships are planed for a charter to the Singapore based American President Line (APL). All details about this new ship type are not released, but the ship data are expected to be like this.
Length 266,0 meters, Beam 32,2 meters, drought 13,0 meters, tonnage 53000 ton. She can carry ca 4713 TEU and has plugs for up to 600 reefer containers. She will be equipped with a ca. 36775 KW engine, and has a service speed of 22,5 knots.
Also the an other Hamburg based shipping company the Columbia Shipmanagment has placed orders for 5 ships of the same type, these ships are planed for delivery during 2008
ISIRL orders more ships at Hyundai HI and Hanjin HI.
Also the other major Arab shipping line, Theran based Islamic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) who resently orderd four 5000 TEU containerships by HHI group has greed with the same yard group about an order for two bigger 6500 TEU Ships. which are planed for delivery during 2008. Hyundai HI has a family of 6500 TEU ships under design for the Hanjin Shipping group, and it is expected that the new ISIRL ships will be of a similar design. ISIRL has also come to an agreement with the Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd yard, Pusan South Korea about an order for four 6500 TEU ships, also these ships are planed for delivery during 2008. Hanjin HI has also a row of 6500 TEU ships under design for the Maersk Sealand group and it is expected that the ISIRL ships will build on this design.It is for the moment unclear where the ISIRL will deploy the new ships, but one of ISISL main routs to Europe is a posibility.
United Arab Shipping Co.(UASC) orders eight 6800 TEU ships by HHI.
HYUNDAI Heavy Industries (HHI) reports that it has finalised the negotiations with the Arabian based United Arab Shipping Co. (UASC), and Arabs biggest container shipping line has now ordered eight 6800 TEU ships at the yard group, a part of the ships will be build at the HHI yard in Ulsan, the remaining at the Hyundai Sahmo yard. The new ships are planed for delivery during 2008, and will replace smaller and slower ships in the 3800 TEU range on the Asia - Middle East - Europe service. The Hyundai yard group has already a family of 6800 TEU ships on order from Hyundai Merchant Marine, and it is expected that the new ordered ships will be of a slightly modified design.
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 306,0 meters, Beam 40,0 meters, drought 13,5 meters, tonnage 85000 ton. She can carry ca 6800 TEU (ca. 4700 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 500 reefer containers. She will be equipped with a ca. 57000 KW engine, and has a service speed of 25,0 knots.

The ship will get the charter name P&O NEDLLOYD MANET and be chartered to Blue Stars mother company, Rotterdam based P&O Nedlloyd group. The working together between Peter Doehle Schiffahrt Hamburg and the Jiangsu Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Co. Ltd, China seams to work well, and Doehle Schiffahrt has now ordert additional four ca 2500 TEU ships of the yards new design. The new ships are planed for delivery during 2008, the orderfollows a similar order for four ships with delivery of the first ship end of 2006 and then 3 more ships during 2007. Doehle Schiffahrt has now 16 ships on order by the yard, additional to the 2500 TEU ships is it 8 ships of the yards 1554 TEU design, also ordered by Hamburg based Rickmers & Cie. Thailand based Regional Container Lines (RCL) has recently taken delivery of a new 2577 TEU Containership from Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd yard in Nagasaki, Japan, the ships which are registered in Thailand are the first of two ships ordered by RCL by the Japanese yard who has until now mainly been deployed with the building of bigger Containerships. The URU BHUM will be deployed in RCL's Far East - Australia ASA service which RCL run is co-operation with Lloyd Triestino and Hanjin Shipping.
DAL KALAHARI IMO Nr. 9294408
Dainish yard Odense Steel Shipyard AS, part of the A.P. Moller Group has delivered another specila designed 4500 TEU type with high intake of reefer containers to German Deutsche Afrika Line (DAL), a long term partner of the subsidi Safmarine in there trade betwenn Europe and South Africa. The new DAL KALAHARI will replace a older ship with the same name build in the seventies, now sailing under the name KALAHARI. The new ship will together with 3 similar sister vessels from Safmarine and Maersk-Sealand and 2 new ships from the third partner P&O Nedlloyd sail in the South African - North Europe service. The old DAL KALAHARI from 1976 which on here last trips sailed as the KALAHARI has been sold to Geneva based Mediterranean Shipping Company.
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 266,0 meters, Beam 37,0 meters, drought 14,5 meters, tonnage 62994 ton. She can carry ca 4500 TEU (3700 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 1010 reefer containers. She is equipped with an B&W SULZER 8RT-flex96C with 45588 KW engine, and has a service speed of 25,0 knots.
Norddeutsche Vermoegen orders ships by Shanghai Chengi Shipyard.
Hamburg based finance company Norddeutsche Veroegen has order 4 more ships of the 3554 TEU design by the Shanghai Chengi Shipyard, the 4 ships are all planed for delivery during 2008. Norddeutsche Veroegen has now 6 ships of this popular design on order from the year, and has already 2 ships of same design managed by its subsidy Norddeutsche Reederei in service with charter to MSC. The Shanghai Chengi Shipyard and Shanghai Shipyard has now 12 ships of this design on order for various German shipping companies, all ships shall be put into service before end of 2008.
Hamburger Sued orders 6 post panamax ships at Daewoo-Mangalia.
Hamburg based Hamburger Sued has now as expected finalised orders for 6 post panamax by the Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries yard in Romania, 4 of the ships will be delivered in 2008 and the remaining two ships in 2009. Only a few details about the design has been released, but a slightly increase in container intake to 5600 TEU compared to the 5552 TEU at the 6 ships that Hamburger Sued in the moment get delivered from the Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd yard in South Korea is reported.
K-Line to order more mega Containerships.
Tokyo based K-Line has announced that it has planed to order 4 more mega containerships with a official capacity of 8120 TEU, it is nearly sure that theIshikawahima heavy industries Co. Ltd, (IHI) yard Japan will be the builder of the ships. K-Line already have 5 similar ships in order by the same yard, and the new ordert ships will have the same design parameter as the already ordert ships, tree of the ships are planed for delivery in 2008, the last ship is planed for delivery in 2009. From many sides it is douted that the official number of containers for this ships type are 8129 TEU as the ships will be wider and have same length as the resently delivered P&O NEDLLOYD MONDRIAAN which can carry 8452 TEU. It is more likely that the ships will be able to carry about 9200 TEU, similar to other design from other yards with the same dimensions. The new ships are together with the 5 pervious ordered ships planed for K-Line's Asia - Europe - Asia service, where she will replace smaller ships of about 5500 TEU.

Matson plan owen Guam and China service.
Matson Navigation Company, Inc. (Matson), are planning to start a new weekly US West Coast-Hawaii-Guam-China service, the service are planed to start in the beginning 2006, when Matson's present ten-year alliance agreement with APL expires, The planned routing will include port calls at Long Beach, Honolulu, Guam and two ports in China. For the new service Matson needs new ships, and has now agreed with the Kvaerner Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc to purchase two 2600 TEU ships of the GV 2600 under construction at the yard, with delivery planed for July 2005 and June 2006, Matson already has two ships of the same design originally designed at the Aker groups German yard in service. And Matson and has very good experience with the ships called MANUKAI and MANUAWILI,. Matson has additionally Options for up to 4 more ships of same design from the Philadelphia yard for delivery until 2010.
More orders for the Aker Ostsee Yard.
The newly joint Aker Ostsee yard in Germany has announced that it has recived orders for additional six ships, four shisp will be of the popular Baltic 2700 type design, and are ordered by Hamburg based König & Cie. The new ships which together with other orders for mid sice containerships will fully deploy the yard into 2007 , the new ordered ships are planed for delivery 2007. The yard has now 17 ships of the Baltic 2700 type on order to various German shipping companies.
The ship type has the following dimensions Length 221,6 meters, Beam 29,8 meters, drought 11,1 meters, tonnage 38700 ton, and she can carry 2742 TEU (2115 TEU by 14 ton) and has 400 plugs for Reefer containers. She is equipped with an MAN / B&W type 7L70MCC with 21770 KW engine, and has a service speed of about 22,0 knots.
Aker Ostsee has also recived the first orders for it new Baltic 1700 type designed ships, two ships are ordered by the Hamburg based Thien & Heyenga shipping company, and options for two more ships was also agreed. The 2 orderd ships will be delivered with one ship in 2006 and one in 2007. Negotiation with German shipping company Oscar Wehr for orders of the same ship type are also taking place in the moment..
The new ship type has the following dimensions Length 182,0 meters, Beam 25,2 meters, tonnage 24200 ton, and she can carry 1706 TEU (1250 TEU by 14 ton) and has 300 plugs for Reefer containers. Hamburg based MPC Steamship has end of last week taken delivery of the second ca. 2500 TEU container ship from the HDW Howaldswerke Deutsche Werft AG, Kiel, Germany, the ship with the project name RIO EIDER is similar to here previous delivered sister ship chartered to Copenhagen based Maersk-Sealand group, where she has got the name MAERSK NARVIK. Two ships more of the same design will follow in the second half of 2005, and additional two ships are planed for delivery during 2006. Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Geneva, will soon taken delivery of the first 8089 TEU mega containership build by Hanjin Heavy Industries Pusan South Korea, due to the position of the yard in the city area without possibility for expansion, it has been necessary to build the ship in two parts, and join them outside the building dock. MSC will take delivery of additional 4 of this type of ships during 2005 and another 3 ships in 2006, where tree of the ships will be owned by German shipping company C.P. Offen Hamburg. The MSC MEADA will first be phased into CMA CGM and MSC's joint Pearl River Express service linking South China with the North American west coast, here she will replace the MONTE PASCOAL currently chartered from Hamburger Sud until the last of the five planed ships the MSC RACHEL will be delivered end of April 2005. MSC MEADA ill start here first round trip May 5th 2005 in Xiamen and the pass Chiwan, Hong Kong, Yantian before she goest to Los Angeles and Oakland where she is expected to arrive end of May.

Hong Kong based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL) has got another of its 8063 TEU OOCL SHENZEN class ships delivery, the new ship will get the name OOCL ATLANTA, and after delivery she will be phased into the Grand Alliance's SSX service connecting Asia with the North American west coast. OOCL ATLANTA will start here first trip in Yantian March 6 and then go to Hong Kong from where she then sail to Long Beach where she is expected to arrive March 18, and after this trip she will follow the normal schedule for the SSX service. The ships is the seventh ships of this class that the Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, South Korea has delivered to OOCL, and additional 3 ships of the type are on order, with one for delivery in April 2005 and 2 ships during 2006, and OOCL has additional options for more of this ship type, for delivery in the following years.

USAC orders a sextet of 6500 TEU ships.
Arab basec United Arab Shipping Company (UASC) has now close to agreed with South Korea Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. about a contract for sixtet of 6500 TEU containerships. UASC has due to the growing amount of cargo fore some time planed to upgrade there Asia - Middle East - Europe service with bigger and faster ships. The ships which will be delivered during 2008 will properly be similar to the 6500 TEU ships the same yard are building for the Hanjin Shipping group. The price for the ships are not released, but it is expected that USAC has paid a pretty high price for the sextet.
More Orders for Hyundai Mipo.
The orders for containerships still flow into the orderbooks around the world, even if there first are empty building space after 2008, and a shortage of steel in most asian countries, which for the moment partly delay the delivering of ships. Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co now announce that they have got orders for 11 more containerships, 5 panamax and ca. 4300 TEU big ships will go to Norddeutsche Vermögen Hamburg. 3 similar big ships will go to Rotterdam based P&O Nedlloyd. 2 Ships of the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltds standard 2824 TEU design will go to Tokyo based Cido Shipping, and 2 similar ships will be delivered to Tokyo based Orix Shipping. The total volumen of the ordes is about US$630 million, and all ships will be delivered until end of 2008.
Hamburger Sud goes to European yard for Postpanamax ships II.
It now seams that the Daewoo Magnalia Heavy Industry in Romania will be the yard who win the contract for up to 6 post panamax containerships of the 5000 - 6000 TEU class. The yard has until now mainly been delivering smaller Containerships and Hulls to other European yards, but will soon start to build four ca. 4900 TEU for MSC. The design of the new ships will come from the mother company Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd in South Korea who are now completing a family of six 5552 TEU ships for Hamburger Sud. It is very likely that the ships build in Romania will of the same or a slightly modified design.
C.P. Offen orders more containerships at Hyundai Mipo.
Hamburg based C.P. Offen has now converted more of there options for containerships into orders, after they in week 4 2005 ordert 6 ships whitch will be delivered during 2007 and chartered to Hamburger Sud, they now ordert additional 6 ships by Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd South Korea. The ships are going to be 1800 TEU ships and not 1600 TEU as anounced in week 4, and the new ordered ships are planed for delivery during 2008. Total contract price is $234 million, C.P. Offen still have 8 more options open for more the same type of ships.
Hapag Lloyd publish names of the first 8600 TEU ships.
Hamburg based Hapag-Lloyd has now published the names they plan to use for the first two 8600 TEU containerships they have on order by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co Ulsan South Korea. The first ship with the IMO Nr. 9320697 will be called OSAKA EXPRESS, this name was first planed for a slightly smaller 8200 Ship from same yard, but that ship with the IMO Nr. 9295256 will now instead be called KYOTO EXPRESS. The second ship with the IMO Nr. 9320702 will carry the name CHICAGO EXPRESS, it is not yet known where in the Grand Alliance network these ships will be placed. The KYOTO EXPRESS is together with here two sister ships the COLOMBO EXPRESS and the TSINGTAO EXPRESS planed for delivery end of 2005 and beginning of 2006, the 2 bigger ships are planed for delivery during 2007.

Hamburger Sud goes to European yard for Postpanamax ships.
Different sources report that the German Hamberger Sud group are close to finalising a contract for up to 6 postpanamax containerships of the 5000 - 6000 TEU class, the step are taken after they didn't manage to find building space by asian yard able to build this type of ships. It is very likely that the yard is German Aker Ostsee who already have expirence with the building of containerships of this size for other customers.
Hyundai Merchant Marine orders 9 big containerships.
After Hanjin Shipping placed orders for new ships last week, Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) South Koreas second bigges container shipping company has now as expected ordered nine big containerships, by the close related Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co. 4 of the ships ships will be megacontainerships with an intake of about 8600 TEU, and the 5 other ships will be of the 4700 TEU of which HMM already have 3 ships on order from 2 different yards in the Hyundai Heavy Industries yard group. The deal is reported to be worth US$910 million, with the larger vessel costing about $129 million apiece, and each 4,700-TEU ships costing $79 million. The new ships which will be delivered from 2008 are planed to be used in HMM's Asia-Europe and Asia-Middle East services. HMM has now eight 4700 TEU, eight 6800 TEU and four 8600 TEU containerships on order.

The Seaspan container line group based in Vancouver Canada has now taken delivery of the first of five 4250 TEU Panamax containerships from Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, South Korea, the ships will together with here four sisters be chartered to Shanghai based China Shipping Line ( CSCL), and has got the name CSCL Vancouver. The ship will be registered in Liberia, and will be placed in CSCL's service between Asia and North America, where it February 15 started its first round trip, and it is expected that she will arrive in Los Angeles March 5. The CSCL VANCOUVER is of the Samsung Yards standard 4250 TEU design, of which a long row of ships already are build, and Seaspan Container line has additional 12 ships of this type on order by Samsung for delivery until end of 2006. The remaining 8 ships will be chartered to the Canadian CP Ships group, who will spread them out over it daughter companies sailing around the world.
The ship type has the following dimensions, Length 259,8 meters, Beam 32,2 meters, drought 12,5 meters, tonnage 55000 ton. She can carry ca 4250 TEU (2805 TEU by 14 ton) and has plugs for up to 400 reefer containers, The ship will be equiped with a MAN/BW 8K90MCC engine with 36529 KW and she will get a service speed of 24,5 knots.

Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) Geneva, has taken over a long row of orders placed by differend German shipping companies at different South Korean yards, all the ships was originally planed to be chartered to MSC but will now instead be ovned and managed by MSC themself. From GEBAB / NSB MSC takes over tree of the six 4900 TEU ships on order by Daewoo Heavy Industries Ltd, South Korea and Daewoo-Mangalia Heavy Industries, Romania. The ships with the project names BUXTIME and BUXSTERN will now be called MSC LEICH, MSC LORENA and MSC ROSARIA, and each one ship will be delivered in 2005, 2006 and 2007. from Hamburg based Rickmers & Cie MSC takes over the four 5060 TEU ships in order by Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., South Korea, with the planed names MSC BENEDETTA, MSC DEBORAH, MSC MARA and MSC OLGA, these ships are all for delivery during 2006. Additional from Hamburg based Peter Döhle Schiffahrt, MSC will take over the two 8204 TEU ships on order by Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Co, Ulsan South Korea, these ships has the project names AMBIKA and ANAISA, and by MSC they will get the names MSC MADELEINE and MSC INES. Both ships are planed for delivery during 2006. From Hamburg based C.P. Offen MSC will take over the two 5600 TEU Ships on order by Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., South Korea, these ships already had the names MSC CAROLINA and MSC MARTA and are planed for delivery in 2005. Additional MSC will take over two of the six 8100 TEU ships that from C.P. Offen had on order from Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Pusan, South Korea, these ships has the names MSC JUDITH and MSC VITTORIA. MSC has also taken over the five of the nine 9200 TEU ships that C.P. Offen had on order by Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, South Korea, also these ships had already got MSC names, it is the MSC ESTHI, MSC FIORENZA and MSC JOANNA, MSC PAMELA, MSC SUSANNA.
In the meantime a clearer picture of the naming strategy used by MSC appear, all ships with the naming convention "MSC + female name" are MSC ovned ships, and all to be chartered ships has the naming convention "MSC + city name".
Hanjin Shipping orders additional 6500 TEU ships.
It seams that Hanjin shipping also need more bigge ships, and it is announced that they have ordert additional tree 6500 TEU containerships by the Hyundai Heavy Industries group, South Korea, Hanjin will have to pay $283.5 million with these additional tree ships Hanjin shipping has 8 ships of this type on order from 2 yards in the Hyundai Heavy Industrie group for delivery until 2008. It is not clear where these ships vill be deployed.

Offen group has taken delivery of an additional ship that they will charter to the long term partner Rotterdam based P&O Nedlloyd, and the ship has got the name P&O NEDLLOYD HEEMSKERCK, what clearly indicate where this new ships will be used. P&O NEDLLOYD HEEMSKERCK is the first of 2 new ships specially build for the Europe - South Africa service, which can be seen of the high intake of Reefer containers she is designed for, there are 1200 Reefer plugs the ship. P&O Nedlloyd runs this service together with DAL, Safmarine and Maersk-Sealand who all have or will become new ships of similar size for this route. P&O NEDLLOYD HEEMSKERCK will soon be on the way from South Korea to Durban in South Africa, where she will start here first roung voyage in direction of North Europe March 03 with planed arrival in Le Havre, Rotterdam; Tilbury and Bremerhaven between March 19 and March 23.

After they end of 200 took delivery of a row of 2500 and 2700 TEU ships for there Middle East - Europe service, Iran Shipping Line (ISIRL) has now also decided to upgrade there Middle East - Asia service, an replace the existing ca 3400 TEU ships with bigger and faster ships. World largest single ship engine ordered for Cosco chartered ship.
Leading ship engine design company Danish/German B&W-MAN has announced that I has now got orders for what is believed to be the world biggest single engines for a ship with an output of more than 100000 bhp. The order for 5 engines comes from Greek Costamare Shipping who will use the engine in a serial of ultra large containerships being build at the Hyundai Heavy Industries Ltd. Yard in Ulsan, South Korea. The engines will also be build by Hyundai Heavy Industries engine division, and the 12 cylindered 12K98MC engines will have a output of 74.760 KW (101.576 bhp). The ships which will have a capacity of about 9200 TEU will be charter to china based Cosco Container line, and the first ship are planed for delivery February 2006. It is not yet clear in which of Coscos many services these new big ships will be placed, but a Guess is that they will be placed in one of Coscos Asia - Europe services, together with the 4 slightly bigger ships Cosco has resently ordert by the same yard.APL VIETNAM IMO Nr. 9295359 delivered.
German shipping company Oltmann Verwaltung has take delivery of there second 5026 TEU containership and it will be named APL VIETNAM, similar to its sistership the APL BEIJING she will be chatered to Singapore/US based American president Line (APL). The APL VIETNAM is build by the Hyundai Samho Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. Yard in South Korea und the yard-Nr. S217, and is a standard type 5000 TEU containership, of which already 6 ships are delivered to Hamburg based E.R. Schiffahrt and Oltmann Verwaltung, and additional 2 ships of this type will be delivered during 2005. With this last delivery the Oltmann fleet has reached 12 modern containerships between 624 and 5026 TEU, and additional one 4100 TEU ship will be delivered to the shipping company in the first half of 2006. The APL VIETNAM will be imployed on APL's NYX service between Asien - US east coast - South America west coast.

Athens based Tsakos Shipping has taken delivery of the first ever new build containership from the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co, South Korea, the ship sailed out of the yard with the name IRENES REMEDY, and she will be followed by 5 sister vessels coming into service until 2007. This move comes after HMM anounced a record good 2004 result, and the sale of stoks in the company to forigine companies, which has helped reduce the companies debth, HMM has now eight 9000 TEU, five 6800 TEU and tree 4700 TEU ships on order from different yards in the Hyundai yard group.
Yang Ming close to order 5 big containerships.
Taiwan's second biggest container shipping line Yang Ming Line are still in the need for more big containerships and after they shortly order five 8200 TEU by China Shipbuilding Corp. (CSC), they are now again out with request for a similar amount of ships of same size. South Korean Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd. and China Shipbuilding Corp. Taiwan are mentioned as the two remaining yards competing for this order, where Yang Ming wants the ships delivered during 2008.
The new demand comes after alliance member Cosco container Line ordered 4 big ships last week, and K-Line also has 8 similar size ships on order, and after finalisation of this order Yang Ming will have eight 8200 TEU ships and four 8100 TEU ships on order, with the first ships planed for delivery middle of 2006. It can be expected that Yang Ming need the ships to replace smaller ships on there Asia - Europe service. Also the third alliance member in the CHKY alliance, Hanjin shipping group are reported to be out looking for free building space for a family of big containerships, and it is expected that Hanjin will have ordered there new ships until end March. Also Hanjin which will get there first 7500 TEU ship chartered from German Conti group middle of 2005, are looking to get the new ships delivered during 2008. Hanjin has currently denided that they would need bigger ships as what they had already chartered, but it looks like the hign amount of freight has changes there mind.
Full order books in South Korea.
It is reported that the south Korean yard got 159 orders for containerships last year, this is more than 1/3 of all closed orders with the South Korean yards, and with the big orders agreed during January 2005 and negotiated in the moment , the order books at the 4 big yards in the country are already nearly full, so it will now be difficult for shipping lines to get free space for ships before 2009.
United Arab Shipping Co. also concider ost panamax ships.
For some time United Arab Shipping Co. (UASC) time been looking into oredering new and bigger ships to replace the 3800 TEU ships currently sailing on the Asia to Europe Route, they have announced that post panamax ships with about 5500 TEU would be there prefered ship type. Due to the lack of free yard space in all big shipbuilding countries in Asia and the steady growing prices it is expected that UASC will have to pay record high prices for these new ships, if they want them in the near future.
Shipping Corperation of India plans to order 2 new 4250 TEU Ships.
Also the Shipping Corperation of India (SCI) announce a record result for 2004, and the management has now released money to extend the companies fleet with two ca. 4250 TEU ships. It is not clear where SCI want to buy the ships, but both yards in South Korea and China has design in this size ready, and already many ships in order to various customers.

China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) has now taken delivery of an other 5700 TEU type containership from Hudong Shipbuilding Group in China for China Shipping Container Line (CSCL) has been released, the ship with the name XIN YANTAI, will be put into CSCL's service between Asia and the North American west coast. The new ship will be followed by to additional ships of the same type from the Hudong yard. For technical details on the ship type see week 2 2005.
Rickmers & Cie sells Newbuildings to Evergreen Marine.
Hamburg based Rickmers & Cie has sold four 3500 TEU newbuildings on order by the South Korean Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Ltd. Co to Taiwan based Evergreen Marine Coorperation for a not mentioned price. The four ships are build under the yard numbers 395 - 398, an will be delivered with 2 ships in 2006 and 2 ships in 2007. Rickmers & Cie Still have 2 more of the new shiptype on order for delivery in 2007. The are no informations about the price Evergreen Marine Coorperation has paid for the ships, but with the fast growing prices for ships at the mentioned early delivery time, Rickmers & Cie has properly got a good price for the 4 ships.
The new ship type are planed with the following dimensions Length 239,0 meters, Beam 32,2 meters, drought 12,0 meters, tonnage 43100 ton. The ships will equipped with an MAN/B&W designed engine with 43470 KW engine, and will get a service speed of 23,5 knots.

Also the brother of the Rickmers & Cie owner Mr. Erc Rickmers who runs the E.R. Schiffahrt GmbH has been active with the Hyundai Mipo Dockyard Ltd. Co, and has transformed 3 of his 9 orders for 2824 TEU ships to even bigger ships with a capacity of ca. 4300 TEU. The ships are the E.R. MANILA, E.R. MARTINIQUE and E.R. MONACO with the yard numbers 408, 414 and 415, all 3 ships ships are planed for delivery during 2007.
Also an other German shipping finance company, the Norddeutsche Vermögen seams to be close before agreement with the Hyundai Mipo Dockyards Ltd. Co about an order for 5 similar ships for delivery during 2008.

The 7th of Hong Kong based Orient Overseas Container Lines (OOCL) 8063 TEU containerships to be delivered from Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, South Korea end of February 2005 will be deployde on the Grand Alliance SSX express service. Here will she together with here sisters OOCL HAMBURG, OOCL NINGBO and OOCL ROTTERDAM and some smaller ships connect the Asia Pacific region with the North American west coast. OOCL ATLANTA's first trip are planed to start March 06-07 from Yantian and Hong Kong, and she will reach Long Beach March 18 as only US port March 18. One ship more of this ship-type are planed for delivery in seocnd half of 2005, and additional 2 ships in 2006.

After the announcement of the sale of MARIT MAERSK to Athene based Costamare Shipping some weeks ago, reported on this page, Maersk Sealand has now also sold the first Odense build M-class sistership MARCHEN MAERSK to Costamare Shipping. The ship has changed name to MAERSK MYKONOS, and are transfered from Danish register to Greek register, she will continue in a charter to Maersk Sealand, where she is deployed in the AE3 service linking Europe with Middel East and the Indian subcontinent.

This week China Shipping container line (CSCL), Shanghai and CMA CGM "The Frence Line", Marseille launced there cooperated weekly service between Asia and North West Coast of America and Canada, the service carry the name "Seattle Bridge", and will be operated with 5 ships with an avarage 3400 TEU. Alle five will be come from CSCL's existing fleet, the ships will be XIN YANG ZHOU (4051 TEU), CSCL HAMBURG (4051 TEU), CSCL ROTTERDAM (4051 TEU), CSCL LONKOU (2466 TEU) and CSCL FUZHOU (2472 TEU).The port rotation of the new service will be: Hong Kong, Yantian, Shanghai, Ningbo, Pusan, Seatlle, Vancouver and back to Hong Kong.

Last week Vancouver based Seaspan Container Line took delivery of the fifth and last 8468 TEU containership in there family from Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries Co. Ltd, South Korea, and the ship sailed as CSCL AFRICA to Shanghai, where it yesterday started its first roundtrip on CSCL's AEX service linking Asian and North Europe. After changes in the port rotation she will arrive in Le Havre February 21 as first European port, and the continue to Hamburg where it is planed that she will arrive February 25. From here she will then turn, and sail back in direction of Asia troug Rotterdam, Antwerp and Port Kelang. The CSCL 8500 TEU ship type has the following dimensions, Length 334,0 meters, Beam 42,8 meters, drought 14,5 meters, tonnage 101612 ton. She can carry ca 8468 TEU (6230 TEU by 14 ton) and there are 700 connectors for connection of Reefer containers. CSCL has shortly decided to change there originally plan to deploy all the five 8468 TEU containership on there Pacific service, and they will now all be deployed on the AEX service, where they will sail together with tree 5700 TEU XIN-class ships.
Blue Star shipping release the names for the 2 last 8452 TEU shis to be chartered to P&O Nedlloyd.
After the P&O NEDLLOYD MONDRIAAN as first ship of the 8 ship Family has left Europe on its first roundtrip, the names of the last 2 ships in the family has also been released by Blue Star shipping Hamburg, they will be calles P&O NEDLLOYD MORETTI and P&O NEDLLOYD MONTEVIDEO. Both ships are planed for delivery in the first half of 2007, and will then be placed in one of the Grand Alliance many services.

COSCO Container Line order mega containerships by Hyundai Heavy Industries.
After long negotiations the COSCO Container Line group has finally agreed with the South Korean Hyundai Heavy Industries Ulsan about an order for 4 big containerships with a capacity of 10000 TEU. The ships will be delivered during 2008 and be 349,0 meters long and with a beam of 46,5 metrs, and have one of the biggest single shipengines ever build with 69118 KW what will give the ships a service speed of 25,8 knots. According Hyundai the ships will be the biggest ever build containerships, and even bigger ships with up to 12000 TEU has already been anounced designed by both Hyundai Heavy Industries and rival yard Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries. After they end of 2004 placied big orders for containerships by Daewoo Heavy Industries , Hanjin Heavy Industries, Hyundai Heavy Industries, Copenhagen based Maersk Sealand group has despite of high prices for newbuildings now also agreed with Samsung Shipbuilding & Heavy industries, and has ordert 4 ca. 9300 TEU big containerships. The ships will be build under the yard numbers 1621 - 1624, and has the follwing IMO Nr. 9342499, 9342504, 9342516 and 9342528. The first 2 ships will be delivered 2007, and the remaining 2 ships in 2008. The Maersk Sealand group already have 14 ships of similar sice on order by its oven Odense Steel Shipyard in Denmark, and has already 25 slightly smaller ships in service..
Evergreen group release the names of new ships to be charter from German Conti group and Greek Delphic Shipping.
Also the Taiwan based Evergreen group has released the names they will use on the eight 8100 TEU ships they will charter from Munich based Conti Group, the ships is a new class by Evergreen, and all names will have a suffix in the name starting with a C. Gerrman shipping company Reederei Hartmann located in Leer, will end of January take delivery of its 7 th 2478 TEU from the Aker Ostsee yard, Germany. The ship with the project name FRESIA HELSINKI will be christened SANTOS STAR, and will be chartered to Haifa based ZIM Integrated shipping service Ltd. The ship will frist go to Hamburg for loading, and then sail to South America, where it will be integrated in ZIM's service between the Mediterranean and the South American east coast. It is planed that SANTOS STAR will arrive in Hamburg January 28.
CSAV to change ther ANDEX Service to a totally independent service
CSAV has announce that starting from February 2005 its Asia Andes Express Sevice (ANDEX) linking Asia with South America West Coast and Mexico will become a fully independent service.The new ANDEX will provide weekly service deploying ten 2.500 TEU vessels will be optimised and the round voyage will be reduced from 77 days to 70 days, and Ningbo will be added as new port. MPC MUNCHMEYER PETERSEN STEAMSHIP, has ordert additional two 2500 TEU container ships by the HDW Howaldswerke Deutsche Werft AG, in Kiel, Germany, and added the ship type to 6 ships. Hamburg based shipping company Rickmers & Cie has now taken delivery of the forth 5060 TEU Containership in a 6 ship order from Hanjin Heavy Industries Co. Ltd., Pusan, South Korea. The ship with the internal name MARGRIT RICKMERS will be charted to Copenhagen based Maersk-Sealand group, where she will get the name MAERSK DHAKA. The ship will be employed on Maersk-Sealands trade from India to North America east coast. The ship type has the following dimensions Length 294,1 meters, Beam 32,2 meters, drought 13,5 meters, tonnage 67470 ton. She is equipped with a Sulzer type 9RTA96C engine with 51485 KW which give here a service speed of 24,3 knots. The 2 remaining ships will be delivered in the second half of 2005 and will also be charted to the Maersk-Sealand group.
Hanjin sells tree 4024 TEU container ships and rename 2 other chartered ships
Hanjin Shipping Group Seoul, South Korea has sold 3 of its older 4024 TEU container ships build 1992 - 1994 to German shipping company Reederei F. Laeisz, Rostock, and the ships has changed to Liberia Flag. The ships will still be chartered by the Hanjin Shipping Group, and keeps the names that have been carrying all the time and they will continue in the services that have been sailing until now. The ships are HANJIN COLOMBO IMO Nr. 9082960, HANJIN OSAKA IMO Nr. 9015527, and HANJIN PORTLAND IMO Nr. 9021681.
Two other Hanjin ships already sold to Greek shipping company Tsakos Shipping has changed names, the HANJIN BARCELONA IMO Nr. 9015539 is renamed HANJIN ELISABETH, and the HANJIN TOKYO IMO Nr. 9021693 will 02.03.05 be renamed HANJIN IRENE.

After Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (K.Line) Tokyo end of last year took delivery of the VERRAZANO BRIDGE and VIRGINIA BRIDGE, they have now also got the thid and fourth ship delivered. The ships belong to the 8 ship V-class family build by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan South Korea . The ships has got the names VALENCIA BRIDGE, VINCENT THOMAS BRIDGE, and will phase into there PNW service running between Asia and the northern part of the North American west coast. This new type of ships are 294,0 meter long, has a Panamax beam of 32,2 meters, and a drought of 12;0 meters by a tonnage of 54519 Ton. The ship type can carry 4014 TEU, and has a service speed of 24,5 knots. The ship will be followed by 4 more ships of the same type, which all will be delivered during the first half of 2005, next ship in the serie are planed to be named VANCOUVER BRIDGE, when she are delivered end of January 2005.
Hapag Lloyd Orders additional 8600 Containerships IMO Nr. 9343716, 9343728, 9343730
Germanys most known container shipping line Hapag Lloyd AG has agreed to order additional tree 8600 TEU Containerships with there long time preferred Shipyard Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan South Korea, the ships will be Build under the yard numbers 1793-1795 and delivered with one ship in 2007 and 2 ships in 2008. The Hyundai 8600 TEU Type ships are 335,0 meters long, 42,8 meters wide, and has a drought of 14,5 meters, by a tonnage of ca. 102000 ton. With a MAN B&W 12K98ME with 68640 KW the ships will have a service speed of 25,2 knots With this new order Hapag Lloyd has five 8600 TEU on order, and will during 2005 and the beginning of 2006 take delivery of 3 slightly smaller 8150 TEU Containerships also coming from Hyundai Heavy Industries. Additionally Hapag Lloyd will charter two 8300 TEU Containerships from German Norddeutsche Reederei, Hamburg, which are also planed be delivered during 2005. The new ships will properly by phased into one of the Grand Alliances Asia - Europe services, where they will replace smaller ships.

SAFMARINE NOKWANDA is the name of the third 4500 TEU containership that Safmarine has taken delivery of from the Danish Odense Steel shipyard, she will after the sea trials together with here sisters LARS MAERSK and SAFMARINE NOMAZWE be deployed on Safmarines service from South Africa to Europe. SAFMARINE NOKWANDA will similar to here Sister be painted in Safmarines carakteristic white colour, with the big blue Safmarine Logo on the side. NOKWANDA is an word coming out of the traditional South African language, and the word are normally given to a young bride and signifies expansion. SAFMARINE NOKWANDA will similar to here sister carry the UK flag, and be registred in Bristol. This ship type from which there already are build 8 ships for the Maersk-Sealand Group, has the following dimensions, Length 266,0 meters, Beam 37,0 meters, drought 14,5 meters, tonnage 62994 ton. She can carry ca 4500 TEU (3700 TEU by 14 ton) and there are 1010 connectors for connection of Reefer containers. MAERSK MANDARKI, ex MARIT MAERSK: IMO Nr. 8613310
A.P. Moller ovned Maersk-Sealand has sold one of the first 4200 TEU M-class ships build at the shipping groups oven Odense Steel Shipyard AS in Denmark, to the Greek shipping group Costamare Shipping, and the ship hs changed to Greek flag. The ship was build in 1988 as MARIT MAERSK, and was the second ship in a 12 ship family, which was delivered in the periode between 1998 and 1991. The ship will be chartered back to Maersk-Sealand for a unspecified Periode. The shiptype was first type optimised to pass the Panama canal, and due to there length the needed a special permission for the first passings. Additinal the type was build for hign speed, and has service speed of about 28 knots.

In the last week of 2004 the Thyssen Nordseewerke GmbH in Emden Germany delivered the Ship Frisia Leipzig as yard Nr. 546 to the German Shipping company Hartmann Schiffahrtsgeschellschaft GmbH. She is going into a charter by Cosco Container Line in Shanghai, and has got the name Cosco Sydney, here she will run on a service linking China with Australia. The ship is the first in a new family of until now 7 ordered ships, which will be build by Thyssen Nordseewerke (5 ships), and the also to the Thyssen group belonging Blom & Voss yard in Hamburg (2 ships). The ships are 215,5 meter long, 32,2 meter wide and has a draught of 11,6 meters, and a tonnage of 37590 Ton. The ship type can carry 2702 TEU (2100 TEU by 14.0 Ton), and there are 400 places for refrigerated containers, and the ships are equipped with tree 45 Ton cranes. With a MAN B&W 7L70MC engine of 20930 KW the ship type reach a service speed 22.3 knots. All the first five ships will be build for German companies, and will be chartered to Chinese shipping companies.

The fast growing Hartmann Schiffahrtsgeschellschaft GmbH also took delivery of a second ship in the last week of 2004, which is a little smaller ship, this time it was from the Aker Ostsee Yard in Wismar, Germany. The ship with the yard Nr. 105 was originally planed as FRISIA ROSTOCK, and got the name CSAV SANTOS as it will be charted by the Chilean CSAV Group, where it together with many of here sisters wessels will be used in there UCC services linking Europe with South America. CSAV SANTOS is the seventh ship that Hartmann Schiffahrtsgeschellschaft GmbH has got delivered from Aker Ostsee in 2004, and it is a ship of the Aker Ostsees standard CV2500 type. This type of ship are 207,4 meters long, 29,9 meters wide and has a draught of 11,1 meters, and a tonnage 33900 Ton. The ship type can carry 2478 TEU (1916 TEU by 14,0 Ton), and have 400 places for refrigerated containers, and the ships are equipped with tree 45 Ton cranes. The ship will in the next years be followed by 6 similar ships, and 14 ships of a slightly bigger type, with an container intake of 2742 TEU.

The two first ships will according plan be delivered in second half of 2005, the other two ships in the beginning of in 2006. No informations are yet avalible about the charterer of these four ships. The Hudong 5700 TEU type of containership are 279,9 meters long, 40,3 meters wide and has a drought of 14,0 meters, and a tonnage 69303 Ton. The ship type can carry 5668 TEU (ca.4650 TEU by 14,0 Ton), and there are 610 places for refrigerated containers on board. With a MAN B&W 12K90MCC engine of 54720 KW the ship type reach a service speed 25.7 knots. The ship will after the delivery be phased into CSCL's Asia - North American West Coast AS1 Service.
